Bardin Residence
Grapevine, Texas

On a high knoll, in a grove of mature Post Oaks, the site is dappled with shade and affords a panoramic view of the western horizon under the canopy of trees. The house is composed of two wings, public and private. These wings are nestled between the oaks, preserving all of them, and arranged to create outdoor spaces woven into the house. The public wing is oriented for enjoyment of the long westward views, and allows the oaks to shade the house from the harsh, late afternoon sun. The roof is framed with thin steel trusses providing broad overhangs, sheltering the house with deep shade most of the day. The walls and floors are concrete creating a cooling thermal anchor.
