Bell Residence Playa Ocotal, Costa Rica
A second home and resort rental, the site is a high bluff with spectacular panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and across the Bay of Papagayo to the north. The house is long, thin and sited to minimize it’s exposure to the setting tropical sun. It is developed to encourage the ever present coastal breezes to move through the house, cooling the interior. The house opens to shaded, long northerly views across the bay. The walls and floors are concrete and masonry, creating a cooling thermal anchor. With a central wind chimney and careful attention to whole house ventilation, the hot, but low humidity climate allows for a comfortable house, even on the hottest of days with no air conditioning. |
